I just, JUST listened to Coby share his story at the church, as he promised. I am fortunate to know Coby personally, and to have heard him share bits of his story in casual conversation.

The story he told tonight, his story, was powerful, riveting and rich. He said he put in 61 revisions before delivering what we heard tonight.

The edits, the revisions, the practice - it was well worth it. Thank you Coby.

I'm in a liminal space also, as any American is. We are on a spectrum with Israelis: we're born where we're born, to whom we're born; WHO we're born begins to form quickly or slowly or never, depending on when how what why...

Questions are everything.

Kara, thank you — though I’d push back on your last line a little.

When I was eight or ten, a Palestinian boy stopped in front of our house in Haifa and told me his uncle and cousins had lived in it and the army had thrown them out. I didn’t lack the question. It was standing on the path in front of me, in words I understood perfectly.

I shrugged and went inside.

So I don’t think questions are everything. I think having one and not asking it is the whole problem, and it took me about forty years to turn around and ask.

You’re right about the accident of birth, though. I didn’t choose the apartment. I only chose the shrug.
